Letter: Lymington's town vision needs an eye test

SIR – I read the article on the "vision" plan to revamp Lymington town centre (A&T, 11th November).

At my age of 82 and with the way of the world changing so fast, I was beginning to think I was living on another planet.

However, after reading of all the “visions” planned for Lymington town centre, I am now thinking I am normal and it’s the councillors who are living on another planet:

Is there a problem getting from the station to the High Street? It must take all of 5-7 minutes to walk this, and were there not signages (though not very visual) inlaid into the pavements some while ago, at no doubt vast public expense, to direct pedestrians along the way?

Do we not already have an “inner ring” for all; be it foot, cycle, car?

Over recent years there has been talk of the High Street being one-way only, parking on one side only, park and ride.

We now have new parking meters which everyone seems to think stupid as you have to register for your free 10-minute ticket and go back to your car to display it, by which time you could probably have done what you parked for in the first place.

Why can’t we use our cardboard clocks?

I know of several people who have now decided against coming into Lymington to shop. And now I read there are plans to make better parking management.

I look forward indeed to see the plan in the new year, to help me know what pop-ups for start-ups are – and to be enlightened how to achieve a “Green Room" on Grove Park and how to slot a bridge on Waterloo Road along with new trees.

Perhaps all these plans will go the same way as the proposed restaurant above the lavatories on the quayside – down the pan, therefore saving money for sensible things, for example: mending potholes properly the first time rather than having to do them again a few weeks/months later.

Jennifer Hewson,
Lymington
