Letter: Barton parking charge plan will penalise locals going about their business
Regarding parking meters and restrictions on Marine Drive East and West in Barton.
I am totally against this proposal. It will simply penalise local people who are going about their daily business, and who pay council staff salaries.
The proposals will move car parking on to surrounding residential roads. Then there will be more complaints, and Hampshire County Council will put double yellow lines in these roads making parking even more difficult.
Businesses will be affected at the Barton Court Avenue junction, regardless of the suggested lesser restrictions in the vicinity, such as the Watersplash Club and the clifftop cafes. These measures will affect visitor footfall for Barton.
HCC should just ban mobile home parking on the clifftop and enforce it.
HCC used the same arguments at Keyhaven. This is all part of a war on the motorist and a money making scheme by the council.
HCC must publish the results of its consultation online and local papers, and should hold a public meeting and and have a ballot.
