Letter: Roadworks in Walkford are punishing traders

SIR – I write with some dismay that roadworks have reappeared in connection with fibre optic installation.

In recent weeks we have had works outside Hoburne near the Chewton Glen (A&T, 31st March) and now the chaos of these works outside Walkford Stores.

They were only doing fibre optic works two months ago.

The impact on local traders in Walkford like the diner, stores, takeaway, hair and beauty salon must be significant.

I talked with the owner of the former diner who suggested that the previous works cost him many hundreds of pounds in income a week.

Simply, people will go elsewhere to avoid the chaos and inevitable parking issues that follow.

When planning such works, there must be a way of being more joined up to ensure the disruption is kept to a minimum. But you look at the works with traffic lights in place and no work being done.

Please sort things out for the benefit of the local traders whose livelihoods depend on this.

Dean Daniels,

Walkford
