Letter: Wheelie bins have no place in our rural areas
Published: 00:30, 15 July 2022
SIR – WHY are our councillors so convinced that we need wheelie bins to improve recycling rates?
Pembrokeshire has one of the best recycling rates but still uses plastic bags.
Wheelie bins are fine in suburban estates with space around the houses. But take a look at Southampton to see what happens when they are forced on terraced houses – pavements constantly blocked by bins.
Surely the New Forest has more in common with Pembrokeshire: rural villages with rough narrow lanes, old towns with narrow pavements and terraced housing.
Why can’t we learn from their example?
