Letter: Where have all the volunteers gone?
SIR – We are getting older, we are getting more tired and it would be nice to have a bit of time to relax.
The Lymington Voluntary Care Group has served our community loyally for over 30 years – but where oh where are the younger members of the area who are willing to step into our shoes?
We regularly read that various groups need volunteers: the latest being Lymington Sailability (A&T, 18th November).
The care group had over 40 drivers before Covid but, like many voluntary organisations, we now only have 17!
However, the commitment for residents going to hospital and doctor appointments etc is on the increase.
It would be wonderful if the local community could respond to our call for drivers, and especially co-ordinators (for without co-ordinators drivers cannot be arranged).
We need to ensure the care group continues to help residents in need.
The danger is that without more volunteers the care group will have to reduce the amount of assistance that we give or regrettably it might have to cease operating, which I feel will be a great loss to Lymington and the local area.
Please, please call Doreen Cummins on 01590 624725 or Dave Kirby on 01590 643615 for more information, as any time you can spare will be beneficial.
