Letters: A New Forest village centre by any other name...
I AGREE wholeheartedly with Noel Baptiste’s comments in the A&T (Letters 17th Nov) regarding Milford’s Community Centre.
When I asked about the renaming I was told it was because performing artists were reluctant to appear at a community centre.
Really?
How much money has been spent rebranding a building which everyone still calls the Community Centre?

I AM responding to the letter (A&T 17th Nov) from a Milford resident complaining about the renaming of the Community Centre to ‘The Bridge’.
In my view it is absolutely right that the trustees of the Community Centre should have looked to rename the facility, aiming it make it more clear that what we have is a fantastic venue that is so much more than just a village hall.
The renaming will help to encourage more people to visit and also encourage promoters to put on entertainment and other events.
As for The Bridge being some distance away (in fact 50m) from the actual bridge over the Danestream, can I point out that in the village we already have a venue called ‘The Beach House’ which is 150 metres from the beach and another called ‘The Lighthouse’ which is 2.5 km from the lighthouse?

I CONGRATULATE Noel Baptiste for writing such a splendid letter (A&T 17th Nov) regarding the renaming of our beloved Community Centre to ‘The Bridge’
So many of us wonder what was the thinking behind this crazy idea and at what cost.
