Bashley Cricket Club secure 83-run win against rivals Totton & Eling
SPL Premier Division
Bashley (Rydal) CC 228
Totton & Eling CC 145
BASHLEY (Rydal) made it two wins in a row while heaping more misery on local rivals Totton & Eling, who are currently languishing second from the bottom.
Bashley did not get off to the best of starts, but a middle-order recovery from Michael Porter (44), Josh Digby (50) and Patrick Lewis (47) left the visitors in a strong position. Totton & Eling made a decent start to the run chase, but Digby's four-wicket haul helped to secure an 83-run win.
Bashley won the toss and chose to bat first, but they soon lost Will Tripcony (6) and Dan Goodey (9) after good catches off the bowling of Sam Beer (2-30), before Tom Varney (1-20) caused the demise of Ben Francis (5).
With the score at 26-3, Porter, Saif Achakzai (19), Digby and Lewis sparked a dramatic revival, dragging their side out of the mire and into a healthy position at 215-8.
They were helped by contributions from James Trodd (6), Tom Penycate (4) and Steve Wilson (8), while the successful Totton bowlers were the impressive Bothwell Chapungu (4-39), Harry Stephens (2-43), and Toby Green (1-64).
Totton's openers started well, with Conor Griffiths (29) and Chapungu (27) reaching 38-1 when Trodd (2-14) had the latter caught by Fletcher. Captain Digby (4-39) then captured the first of his eventual four wickets when he dismissed Harry Stephens (6) with the help of a Goodey catch.
Archie Pascoe (27) and Tom Varney (25) provided stubborn resistance, but Bashley never looked like they would relinquish control while securing an 83-run win.
Bashley's other wickets came from Penycate (2-8), Porter (1-35), and Goodey (1-19).
