Brockenhurst parkrun sees second-highest field in over a decade as Southampton AC’s Ellie Monks comes home first as Wimborne AC's Peter Doughty and Mike Jurd shine




Brockenhurst parkrun’s last run at Wilverley Inclosure before returning to the Brockenhurst College course saw the event’s second-highest in 12 years attendance, with exactly 300 finishers.

On a beautiful sunny morning, Southampton AC’s Ellie Monks, the double female course record holder, led the field home for a ninth time, taking the women’s honours for the 59th time.

Monks ran a very impressive 17:26, just four seconds away from her course record, setting the highest age grade score on the day. She was started in prime condition and warmed up after carrying out the pre-event course check for the 34th time.

The first man home for the fifth time was M45 Peter Doughty of Westbourne RC who ran 18:49 in his 118th Brockenhurst run. He was narrowly pipped to the highest male age grade score honours by clubmate M65 Mike Jurd after running 21:42.

M15 Harry Brown crossed the line as the day’s fastest junior with a time of 23:37, with W15 Ella Hughes leading the girls home for the fourth consecutive week while setting another parkrun personal best (PB) with 24:04.

Visitor M50 Neil Guthrie ran his 200th parkrun, M55 Neil Jarvis from Stubbington Green Runners ran his 1510th, while four participants – W11 Katy Brown, W45 Karolina Hudson, W25 Rachel Forster, and W25 Lydia Mawby – joined the 25-run club.

Next week, Brockenhurst parkrun returns to the Brockenhurst College grounds until the end of August. Enter via North Road, SO42 7RQ, alongside The Huntsman pub. Once through the school gates, turn right and park alongside the sports fields behind the college sports centre.
