Bideford vs AFC Totton – Buchan's beauty beats Ball's boys

AFC TOTTON suffered a disappointing night in Devon when the resolute Robins defence proved too strong for an out-of-sorts Stags on Tuesday evening.

Ethan Taylor and captain Harry Medway had decent headed chances, but the home side spurned multiple chances of their own.

The two sides had met three days earlier at the Snows Stadium, with the Stags winning 4-2 in new manager Jimmy Ball’s first game in charge, so the Robins had extra impetus going into the match.

The Stags were stunned four minutes in when, after a dazzling passing move, Matthew Buchan curled a superb left-footed strike into the top right corner, leaving keeper Lewis Noice with no chance.

The first Stags chance of note came after half an hour when Jake Adams’ wicked delivery found Sam Griffin, whose headed effort was nicked behind for a corner.

The hosts kicked on from there and should have extended their lead in the second half, with only last-ditch heroics from Lewis Noice, the Stags defence and the offside flag saving the visitors’ blushes.

Bideford dominated the frequent aerial exchanges and defended resolutely on the way to a battling and well-earned three points.
