CHRISTCHURCH gave champions-elect Hamworthy United a scare when they equalised, but the long-time league leaders pulled away to win 3-1.

Ultimately, Harry Cooper's leveller moments after the break counted for little after Harvey Wright, Steve Devlin, and Max Wilcock scored for the Hammers, leaving them three points from the title with three games left.

The visitors got off to the perfect start when Harvey Wright spectacularly volleyed home Steve Devlin's corner at the back post.

Church struggled to get out of their half, and it required a brilliant save from Miles Bartram to keep the one-goal margin going into the break.

Callum Brooks' side showed their fighting spirit at the start of the second 45 when Cooper bundled a corner past Shane Murphy.

However, it was downhill from there, with Devlin smashing home a penalty before Wilcock broke down the channel and produced a quality finish to wrap up the game.

Christchurch will play their final league game of the season against Bashley on 16th April at Hurn Bridge.
