Adam Corbin and Ellie Monks lead men and women home at latest Brockenhurst parkrun
On a grey, chilly Saturday morning, 223 people ran, jogged and walked the latest Brockenhurst parkrun, with Adam Corbin and Ellie Monks leading the men’s and women’s fields across the line.
It was the third visit to Brockenhurst for Bournemouth AC’s Corbin and his first time leading the field home. His time of 17:07 is less than a minute from his 16:15 parkrun personal best (PB) set on the pan flat tar of the Poole course.
Hot on his heels in second place was Southampton AC’s Ellie Monks, who was just three seconds away from her record with 17:25. Monks led the women home for the 54th time and set the highest age grade score of the day after carrying out the pre-event course check for a 30th time along with partner Andy Griggs.
The first junior home was first-time visitor M15 Oscar Coupe of Halterworth Harriers on his 93rd parkrun, getting around the 5k course in 19:19, while another first-time visitor from closer to home was New Forest Juniors AC W11 Cerys-Ann Stewart, who led the girls home in a parkrun PB of 23:58.
Once again, M65 Paul Loveridge of New Forest Runners was at the top of the male age grade scores.
There was an unusual entrant, with Brockenhurst parkrun’s first visit by a shark in the form of M35 Simon Helyar. Helyar still ran under 20 minutes, by two seconds, despite his outfit as his preparations for the London Marathon gathered pace.
The 512th Brockenhurst parkrun was made possible by 21 volunteers. They were Katy Hughes, Rob Warwick, Mick Anglim, Andy Griggs, Tristan Chapman, Maxine Slade, Ellie Monks, Alan Horswell, Vasen Moodley, Ellen Urwin, Keith Mitchell, Rosemarie Osborn, Darryl Stevens, Jacqueline Brocklesby, Oliver Eveleigh, Vivienne Baxter, Peter Wilson, Christopher Potter, Pauline Savill, Graham Morris, and Jane North.
Results: 1, Adam Corbin, 17:07; 2, Ellie Monks, 17:25; 3, Robert Spencer, 17:59; 4, Freya Weddell, 18:10; 5, Anthony Murphy, 18:31; 6, Jake Munro, 18:33; 7, Neil Jennings, 18:38; 8, Oscar Coupe, 19:19; 9, Thomas Toyer, 19:41; 10, Jason Christian, 19:49.
