At this week’s Brockenhurst parkrun, three women finished in the top six, and local clubs New Forest Runners and Hardley Runners were well-represented




It was a warm and sunny start to the Easter holidays for the 83 people who ran, jogged and walked the Brockenhurst parkrun course.

The first runner across the line at Brockenhurst College was Adam Jundi, who flew around the 5k course in a rapid 17:30 to lead the field home for the 95th time while also setting the second-highest male age grade score.

He crossed the line ahead of Ian Covey, who set a personal best (PB) with a time of 18:21, while Southampton AC’s Jonathan Grainger crossed the line third in 19:06.

Hardley Runners’s Poppy Tanner was the first lady for the sixth time with a time of 19:15, which is just two seconds away from her Brockenhurst PB set last month. It was her 14th run at Brock since 2014, and she earned her red 50 Club top for running 50 parkruns.

In the junior ranks, first-time visitor M11 Callum Pearson of Bournemouth AC, who has led the field home 10 times at the New Milton Junior parkrun, ran 20:44 to take the honours.

The top age grade score was set by frequent visitor M60 Jonathan Grainger of Southampton AC on his 11th Brockenhurst run and his 34th parkrun since 2014, while New Forest Runners and Lymington Tri Club’s Gemma Russhard set the highest female age grade score on her 241st parkrun.

Hardley Runners’ Alice Rudd rounded out the female podium while being one of three women in the overall top-six finishers.

Sandra Jurd earned her green 250 Run Club top on her 103rd Brockenhurst event. She is well known for completing all her parkruns using Nordic walking poles and is consistent with 180 sub-40 minute times, even on the undulating Wilverley course.

Charlotte Welch ran her 100th parkrun, with 94 of them at Brockenhurst parkrun. She celebrated with a Brockenhurst PB of 21:45.

Representatives of 16 different clubs participated, with local clubs represented by 14 New Forest Runners, six Hardley Runners, and a member of Lymington Tri Club and Totton Running Club.

There were 18 volunteers who made the 522nd event possible. They were Katy Hughes, Mick Anglim, Mike Jurd, Katrin Pritchard, Mike Smith, Caroline Barnfield, Jean Wright, Steve Wilks, Victoria Miller, Lucy Chanter, Charlotte Rajakaruna, Vivienne Baxter, Peter Wilson, Roy van Hal, Clare Kelly, Graeme and Elliot Hutchison, and Gavin Duckett.
