NEW Milton were tipped out of the Southampton Senior Cup last night (Wednesday) after a sensational second-half comeback was spoiled by an 89th-minute winner from the visitors.

The Linnets found themselves 2-0 at half-time but rallied with goals from Tyler Rudd and Tyrrell Sampson, only for Hamble Club to break their hearts late on.

It took only 11 minutes for the Monks to find the net: Will Gange heading in a fine cross from the boot of Braydon Douglas.

Twenty minutes later Hamble doubled their lead: Douglas this time with a side-footed volley hit past New Milton keeper Ollie Bull.

Hamble will have been in a confident mood heading into the match after thrashing Christchurch 3-0 at the weekend and sitting pretty in fourth in the premier division.

But New Milton are riding high at the top of division one for a reason, and they pulled one back in the 53rd minute when Sampson’s shot was saved by Hamble keeper Henry Newman, with Rudd on hand to head home.

The Linnets pair were in the thick of it again for the second, Sampson getting his shot away well despite close attention from a Hamble defender.

But the comeback was all in vain as, with a minute of normal time left, the Monks’ James Johnson found the net from Harvey Ingledew-Coak’s corner, sparking jubilant scenes from the visitors.

New Milton host Verwood this Saturday, kickoff 3pm.
