WALHAMPTON School pupil Loretta Heath from LMC Taekwondo took part in the Nottingham Taekwondo club competition. The event – held over two days – saw more than 400 athletes from clubs all over the UK.

Loretta (11) fought in the A-class 36kg child category final in a nail-biting performance that saw her take her competitor to a golden-point round, following a tied score. Loretta managed to take home a well-earned silver medal.

This year, she had taken part in five competitions and won three gold and two silver medals. Loretta started taekwondo three years ago as a form of self-defence but found she had enjoyed from stepping in the ring. She said: “Anyone can compete in taekwondo, it improves fitness, teamwork and I like winning medals.”

Loretta trains three times a week at LMC Taekwondo in Southampton, run by Hythe’s ex-GB athlete Max Cater. For more information on LMC Taekwondo, visit their facebook page.
