Match report: Lymington Town FC seal Wessex League Division One stay with a 1-0 victory over Folland Sports FC thanks to Connor Lopez’s strike

Lymington Town got the result they needed, sealing a hard-fought single-goal victory over Folland Sports on Saturday to guarantee their league safety.

With Follands sitting deep in the relegation zone, it was all to play for, but Connor Lopez, with the only goal of the game, settled the match.

“We’re delighted to confirm our place in the Wessex League for next season after a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Follands”, said Lymington Town manager Ash Buckland.

“It was a professional performance across the squad and exactly the response we needed after a disappointing display against Amesbury last week.

“The clean sheet was particularly pleasing, and Scott [Barron], Luis [Le Moignan], and Richie [Sesay] were solid at the back, and Nico [Trojanowski] in goal looked calm and composed throughout. His quick thinking also played a key part in the win, setting up the move that led to Connor Lopez scoring his 19th goal of the season.”

Lymington have a tricky match for their season finale with a derby against league champions New Milton Town at home on Saturday.

Buckland added: “Now, all eyes are on our final game at home a local derby against newly crowned champions New Milton Town. Credit to them on their title win, but we’ll be looking to finish the season strongly and make it as tough as possible for them to get a result at our place.”

Follands had quite a few chances in the first half, and they probably looked most likely to score, but the half-time whistle came with the match still goalless.

After the break, Lymington pulled ahead, and they were relentless in ensuring the three points came their way.

Lymington Town: N. Trojanowski, A. Roberts, R. Sesay, S. Barron, L. Le Moignan, A. Christie, A. Morris, B. Morris, J. Lovell, C. Lopez, B. Gill.
