Milford on Sea Bowling Club, affiliated to Bowls England, Bowls Hampshire and the New Forest and Bournemouth and District Associations, is hosting its annual open day

Milford on Sea Bowling Club is getting ready to open its doors so the public can come along and try their hand at lawn bowls as it hosts its annual open day.

The Milford club, which was established on the existing site in 1933, is a small members’ club affiliated with Bowls England and Bowls Hampshire and the New Forest and Bournemouth and District Associations.

Situated on the seafront on Hurst Road, the green takes in stunning views of Christchurch Bay, the Isle of Wight and the Needles.

For competitive players, there is the opportunity to play against other clubs in leagues and competitions. Still, for those who are less competitive, there are plenty of opportunities to turn up and play informally.

The club holds several internal competitions throughout the year, along with informal roll-ups, which give everyone, whatever their age or ability, the chance to enjoy some gentle, fun exercise.

Aside from bowls, the club hosts social events such as bingo, quiz evenings, themed party nights, and more throughout the year when members can enjoy a drink at the members’ bar.

When the green is closed in winter, many members play short mat bowls.

A selection of bowls and shoes, together with a friendly helping hand, will be provided free of charge on the day. Potential players are asked to dress comfortably and wear appropriate outdoor clothing.

The open day, where refreshments will be available, will begin at 10.30am on Wednesday 23rd April for two hours. The address is Hurst Road, SO41 0PY, and a pay and display car park is adjacent to the club.
