Sway man Nathan David to represent Great Britain at 2022 World Dodgeball Championships

A NEW Forest man will be throwing balls with the very best at this year's World Dodgeball Championships.

Nathan David, who lives in Sway, is part of the Great Britain team set to contest the sport's premier event in Edmonton, Canada, which begins this Sunday.

This follows his success with the England team at the European championships in the Netherlands earlier in July when they came second in the men's and women's events, and third in the mixed.

David has secured sponsorshop from local housebuilder Pennyfarthing Homes, but is still on the hunt for more support.

He said: “As an athlete, you dedicate a lot of time and energy to reaching the highest level you can and doing it self-funded can make it even more difficult. It means a lot to receive this sponsorship.

"The funding helps pay for travel, kit, and nutritional expenses, meaning I can go into the tournament as prepared as possible.

“I was already familiar with them as they’ve sponsored many of the sports teams I’ve been a part of, so it felt like a natural choice for me."

Dodgeball sees players on two teams line up and pelt each other with a 8in rubber balls. The aim is to eliminate players on the opposing side by hitting them with a thrown ball, catching one hurled by an opponent, or forcing an opponent to infringe, such as stepping outside the court.

A staple in PE lessons, particularly in the US, the sport featured in the popular 2004 film Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story starring Ben Stiller.
