New Milton CC maintain winning ways in Premier Division One
Southern Premier Division One: Old Tauntonians & Romsey 106 v New Milton CC 107-5 (New Milton CC win by five wickets)
NEW Milton have four wins in four games as they bowled out Old Tauntonians & Romsey for 106 in an emphatic five-wicket away victory.
Old Tauntonians won the toss and batted but got off to a poor start as New Milton’s stand-in skipper Lee Beck bowled Elliot Mitchell-Lee in the first over without scoring. Wickets from Campbell Golding and Dan Loader reduced the hosts to 32-3 as New Milton bowled well as a unit. Ryan Beck was the pick of the New Milton bowlers 3-8 off his ten overs. Alfie Hussey and Dale Wakefield both took two wickets apiece as the visitors’ spin attack dominated. Joseph Vaughan top-scored for Old Tauntonians & Romsey with 48 but had little help from the other end as they were bowled out for 106.
In response, New Milton were resolute as youngster Luke Mortimore and veteran Steve Watts put on 47 for the first-wicket partnership. There was a slight collapse as both openers and Golding departed in quick succession to leave the visitors 58-3. However, leading run scorer Lee Beck saw them home with 24* to seal a convincing five-wicket win.
After losing their opening four games, New Milton have recovered well, and their most recent win propels them to mid-table. The Green and Golds will be looking to make it five on the bounce as they take on Calmore Sports at Fernhill on Saturday.
