Counties Two Hampshire rugby: New Milton power to win over turbulent Millbrook
Counties Two Hampshire
Millbrook RFC 21
New Milton RFC 39
NEW Milton continued their unbeaten league start to stay top of the table after outscoring Millbrook by seven tries to three at Lordshill Recreation Ground.
The visitors made the breakthrough when club stalwart Chris Conacher passed to Dalton Thomas for the touchdown before Brook responded decisively, gaining possession and scoring a converted try.
Dan Mallard gained possession from a Millbrook scrum on the halfway line and fed Conacher, who broke through before finding Charlie Jewiss to complete the score.
Jewiss then showed his impressive pace to race through and evade tackles, scoring his second, which Connor Hammerstone converted.
Then Millbrook gained a line-out on the Milton 22, but Jude Payne gained possession and ran through the defence tackles before passing to Mallard, who brought the scores to 22-7 at the break.
Mallard notched his second try, which was converted, straight from the kick-off after good work from Callum Wood, and Hammerstone ran half the pitch length allowing Jewiss to complete his hat-trick.
Millbrook managed an extended period of pressure. Still, New Milton held on before Lavis gained possession and kicked ahead for Hammerstone to collect and race clear for a well-earned try.
Millbrook finished the match well, and from a New Milton scrum on the halfway line, they gained possession before the backs ran in to touch down. They followed that with another try, but New Milton made it four wins from four games.
The player of the match was front-row forward Alfie Wignall for his action all over the pitch.
