New Milton suffered the most ignominious of defeats in front of their fans, collapsing to 40 all-out against a rampant Hook & Newnham Basics.

The visitors had no trouble surpassing the hosts' run total, doing so in just 11.1 overs to secure an eight-wicket win in one of the league's lowest-ever scoring games.

In a game where no New Milton player scored more than six runs, the hosts found themselves up against it after three players departed with 10 runs on the scoreboard.

Openers Toby Edwards (4) and James Adams (4) quickly returned to the pavilion after being caught by Harry Robson, the former off Lewis Watts (4-12) and the latter off Rupert Armstrong (1-9), while Ollie Nicholls returned for a duck after facing just two balls.

The typically steady Lee Beck (2) and Dan Cook (3) fared no better before Ed Bartlett became the first of Aniket Divecha's (4-11) four victims.

The rest of the batters briefly appeared at the wicket, with George Watts (6 not out) the last man standing.

With a measly 40 runs to defend, New Milton captain and opening bowler Watts got his side off to the perfect start, bowling opener Samual Lockwood (0) with one run scored.

The remaining opener, Harry Warner (16 not out) and Harry Robson (17) left Hook & Newnham Basics needing seven runs for the win when the latter had his wicket captured by Watts, and the subsequent scores arrived without fuss.

New Milton will hope to pick up their first win when they face Andover away on Saturday at 12.30pm.
