New Milton teenager Sam Perkins’ remarkable comeback seals third Cuestars U21 Bronze Tour winner’s trophy of the campaign.
New Milton’s Sam Perkins continued his remarkable rookie season on the Cuestars U21 Bronze Tour with a late-night success in south London.
It was fast approaching 9.30pm when the 13-year-old clawed back a 20-point deficit in the second frame to claim his third winner’s trophy of the campaign.
His 2-0 victory over Oliver Donnelly in the final of the seventh leg at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon, extended his lead at the top of the rankings.
Donnelly (Wandsworth) was also runner-up in the previous leg to Archie Light from Lymington.
Reflecting on the day, Perkins said: “It was a bit on and off. In some of the games, I didn’t play so well. But I made a 30 break in the semis, and it got better.”
When asked how playing late in the evening affected him, Perkins replied: “I don’t really mind it – my legs are a bit tired, but that’s all.”
Tim Dunkley, a WPBSA coach who works with Perkins and Light, watched the action. He said: “Sam could easily have folded when he was that far down in the second frame, but he dug deep and inched his way to the finish line. The lad has some character.”
Light, who is fourth in the rankings, lost to Jack Miller (Thatcham) in the last 16.
The event was sponsored by Frames Sports Bar (framessportsbar.com) and snookerdad Tan Jeraj.
Fareham Snooker Club hosts the eighth leg of ten on 2nd March.
