Match report: Lymington Town FC march on after 3-1 Wessex League Division One triumph over Fawley AFC
Lymington Town defeated Fawley AFC to make it three wins in their last four games with a 3-1 Wessex League Division One victory on Saturday.
Lymington Town captain Ben Morris gave his side the lead before Will Berry levelled, but an Alex Morris goal and a second from the skipper sealed the win.
“A great result and a great team performance,” said Lymington Town manager Ash Buckland. “Delighted to secure our third consecutive win in the league.
“In the first half, we were not the best, but after half-time, when we talked about our game, the team spirit displayed by every player was great, and we could have scored more as we took control of the game.
“Our attacking line was sharp and clinical, even after making some changes as we missed some key players, and the defence remained more solid under pressure.”
Lymington Town struggled at the start of the year, but their form has improved drastically, with the side steadily climbing up the table.
“It’s great to watch the squad gel,” added Buckland. “The run we have been on is a testament to the lads’ togetherness. Chris Morris [assistant manager], the coaching team, and I couldn’t be prouder. However, we can’t rest on our laurels, as we have to get ready for the test ahead this Saturday.
“We face an in-form Newport team who are coming off a strong win themselves last weekend. It will be a challenging match, but I’m confident that if we continue to work hard and play our football, we can cause any team issues to hopefully keep our good form going into the Christmas break.”
With Lymington Town’s improved play, the stands have begun to look a little fuller, with 155 fans watching Saturday’s victory.
Buckland concluded: “The crowd at the weekend was great. It is so good to see more people support the team, and it means a lot to me and all the lads. I am looking forward to seeing as many as possible again this Saturday for support at the sports ground.”
Fawley had made a fairly bright start to the match, but Ben Morris knocked the stuffing out of them with an excellent goal after 12 minutes.
The Oilers showed they were up for the fight when Berry grabbed his second goal of the season, but Alex Morris restored Lymington’s lead five minutes after the break with a delightful finish.
Lymington fired over the bar before the skipper and man-of-the-match winner fired home in the 78th minute to seal all three points.
