Lymington Town reserves booted from the Southampton Senior Cup by committee after shock Romsey Town win

Lymington Town reserves have been removed from the Southampton Senior Cup after beating Romsey Town after falling foul of the rules.

A registration error meant a Lymington Town development player was not eligible for the cup, and the Southampton Divisional FA has removed them from the cup and given Romsey a home walkover.

A Lymington Town spokesperson commented: “It was disappointing for our development lads who had worked so hard to beat the Romsey first team.

“Unfortunately, due to an administrative oversight, which we were unaware of, a registration error meant that one of our players was not eligible for the cup game as the registration went through the day after the deadline to play in the game.

“This mistake was on our part, and we are working to ensure it doesn’t happen again in the future.

“It’s very disappointing, but we wish Romsey all the best in the next round.”

Romsey Town made a shock exit from the Southampton Senior Cup when Lymington Town reserves beat them 1-0.

Lymington’s goalkeeper was notably busier in the floodlit match at The AEC Protection Ground. Still, the Romsey senior team could not break through their solid defence despite having most of the possession.
