Manager Ash Buckland said: “I’m proud of the lads for grinding out a 4-2 away win. It wasn’t the most polished performance by any stretch, and there’s definitely room for improvement; however, the lads worked really hard.

“We struggled to get the ball moving in the first half, but in the second half, we came out stronger and were able to create further chances, which we took really well.

“Sometimes, football is about finding a way to get the result if you don’t play your best, and that’s what we did.”

Buckland added: “A special mention goes to keeper Nico, who was absolutely outstanding – saving two out of three penalties he faced.

“Strange to see three penalties against you, which were questionable, but credit to Nico, he made himself hard to beat. He has been great for us over the last few weeks.

“The game could’ve easily been 6-4, so it certainly didn’t disappoint the spectators. This win shows the character and resilience of this team, and we’ll take the positives as we prepare for the next challenge, our home game this Saturday against Follands.”

After a difficult start to the season, Lymington Town have found their feet, with the three points lifting them to 12th in the table.

“We’re very proud of our young squad and how they are always developing and learning and now picking up important points,” concluded Buckland.

Alex Morris gave Lymington the lead after 17 minutes – grabbing his eighth goal of the season – before Zak Nash equalised 13 minutes later from the penalty spot.

After the break, William Johnson and Jo Sutherden extended the hosts’ lead to 3-1. However, a minute after Sutherden’s goal, Josh Southwood pulled one back to flirt with a comeback briefly.

With 11 minutes left, Lymington’s top-scorer, Connor Lopez, grabbed his 13th of a prolific season, scoring past keeper Dease Kerrison to finally settle the contest in the south coast side’s favour.
