Hampshire Ladies Premier: Romsey 1-4 New Forest Hockey

NEW FOREST Hockey Club’s ladies first team staged a fightback to beat Romsey in the Hampshire Premier Division.

Romsey started strongly and opened the scoring after 10 minutes. Forest took time to get into the game and keeper Becky Snook made several good saves before Ruby Noble equalised from a short corner. Player of the match Josie Morris then scored an opportunistic goal after an initial save from the Romsey keeper. Forest held on to their advantage until half-time with defenders Maz Brewis, Sarah Biddlecombe, Octavia Allen and Rachel Lloyd playing well as a unit at the back.

In the second half, Forest missed a fine chance to extend their advantage when a penalty flick was missed. Forest captain Lia Waine then provided a cushion with an accurate hit into the corner of the goal, ably assisted by Dawn Messenger. To round off a convincing victory, Lynn Jones skilfully set up Waine for her second goal and Forest’s fourth.

The season’s unbeaten form continues with Forest meeting Basingstoke this weekend in a top of the table clash.

New Forest I: Becky Snook, Maz Brewis, Sarah Biddlecombe, Rachel Lloyd, Octavia Allan, Dawn Messenger, Beth Cammegh, Lynn Jones, Nicky Brooks, Ruby Noble, Lia Waine (c), Jade Lock, Josie Morris.
