John Wood appointed as new coordinator for New Milton Rugby
NEW Milton Rugby Club has appointed former colts coach John Wood as the new coordinator of coaching knowledge.
He replaces David Dunn who retired at the end of last year following a highly successful tenure.
Wood was persuaded to take up the new position at the Normans Way-based outfit because of his effective coaching methods. He has already attracted players to New Milton Rugby Club which runs three senior sides and all age groups.
A highly-regarded sevens coach at the Lonely Goats, Wood plays an attacking brand of rugby, and training sessions reflect that. He said: “I know many of the players already from my time with the colts.
“I am not an old-school coach – I prefer heads-up, thinking rugby in which speed of thought is as important as speed of foot.
“Sessions are designed to be enjoyable with a high level of learning; technique and organisation are key.
“We train on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30pm, and I’d like to see as many as possible – everyone is welcome, old or young, beginner or veteran.
“We have a great coaching team in place now, and the club is in a very good place.”
First-team skipper Sam Bew said: “Woody has already brought a great deal of enthusiasm and expertise to the club and I’d encourage everyone to come training."
