Moors Valley in Ringwood launches first ever illuminated Halloween trail
The usual tranquil setting of Moors Valley country park has been transformed into a spooky landscape filled with spine chilling sights and eerie sounds this Halloween.
The Ringwood attraction, in partnership with RG Live, launched its immersive illuminated trail with magical special effects last night.
I took my boys, aged five and eight, in the early evening, as dusk fell. I had slight reservations about how the younger one would fare, but the experience was just the right balance of spooky and fun.
The first part of the trail is tame, with spectacular lighting illuminating the natural beauty of the landscape and lulling you into a false sense of security.
But as you go deeper into the forest, the trail, enveloped in dense trees, becomes darker and more sinister, with woodland spirits watching and whispering from the shadows and tree demons overhead.
My five-year-old’s shoulders were becoming increasingly hunched throughout, but he was absolutely captivated by the Halloween characters skillfully played by actors.
Meet terrifying highwaymen, a ghostly undertaker and a wicked witch brewing something vile in her cauldron - she was a favourite with kids, indulging their requests and sparking their imaginations.
Adding to the thrill factor were countless props including an army of skeletons watching from above, hooded creatures lurking in the forest and sinister faces that very convincingly appeared to be carved into the trees.
This was a trail of unsettling sights and mysterious sounds at every turn, complete with magical light displays, enchanting special effects and the astounding beauty of the national park.
Families can buy food and drink before and during the experience from the many food stalls selling a range of delicious treats including burgers, hot dogs, Greek cuisine, waffles and chocolate coated apples. There are also bars and coffee vans for grown-ups needing a little something to get them through the evening.
Those looking for a family friendly adventure this Halloween offering some multi-sensory horror should absolutely head to Moors Valley. The trail will thrill visitors of all ages, with its beauty and terror; although I would warn any parents of children aged five and under that they may want to opt for the daytime or dusk trail, particularly if their little ones scare easily. But, of course, it depends on the child.
Tickets are priced £16 for adults and £12 for children. Under-twos go free. Visit https://moors-valley.co.uk/events/halloween-at-moors-valley/
