Hordle-based Chocolate by Miss Witt scoops two Academy of Chocolate awards

NEW Forest artisan chocolatier Kerry Witt has won two globally acclaimed Academy of Chocolate awards.

Kerry, who set up Hordle-based Chocolate by Miss Witt in 2012, secured two silver awards from the academy, which promotes a greater awareness of the difference between fine chocolate and the mass-produced chocolate confectionery which most people eat.

One of the accolades was for her Explorer’s Gin Chocolates, created in collaboration with Downton Distillery. Flavours of light juniper and lemon verbena blend with a ganache centre that uses Maracaibo Criolait – combining cream with notes of honey and caramel.

The second award celebrates the iconic and “truly satisfying” sea salted caramel, which has become a signature flavour for Chocolate by Miss Witt.

Awards committee member Keith Hurdman said Kerry was considered “one of the leading chocolatiers in the UK”.

“That she is consistently a contender for the industry’s leading awards are a testament to her dedication to continuous improvement and her enthusiasm and affinity for teaching students of all ages,” he said.

The Academy of Chocolate was founded in 2005 by five of Britain’s leading chocolate professionals, united in the belief that eating fine

chocolate is one of life’s great pleasures.

As well as promoting an understanding of the ingredients of chocolate, the organisation encourages the transparent sourcing of cocoa beans from the plantations and their production in socially fair and environmentally undamaging conditions.

The awards attract entries from countries across the globe, including Canada, India, Taiwan and Madagascar.

Kerry runs team-building workshops for corporate clients, chocolate tasting experiences and celebration packages perfect for hen and birthday parties.
