Lymington market to stay open during second lockdown

LYMINGTON’S popular Saturday market will remain open to those traders selling what the government has deemed “essential items” during November’s lockdown.

The National Association of Local Markets has confirmed that stalls selling food, licensed alcohol, plants, and hardware, bike, pet, agricultural and newsagents supplies can continue to trade.

Lymington and Pennington Town Council said the event will still be operating “predominately” on one side of the road and set back from the pavement to allow additional space to comply with social distancing rules.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We are doing our utmost to support traders continuing to operate during these difficult times.

“Please come along to support the market traders, ensuring you are wearing a face covering when queueing, using hand sanitiser and adhering to social distancing guidelines.”

Following the country’s first lockdown back in spring, Lymington market began tentatively operating again in June, with significantly fewer stalls.
