A MARINE engineering firm in Lymington has been awarded dealer of the year by engine manufacturer Volvo Penta.

SAL Marine in Haven Quay, which was set up in 1984 as a marine service centre for sailors and motorboat enthusiasts, was awarded in recognition of its customer service.

The firm sells engines and parts by some of the biggest names in the industry, including Honda, Suzuki and Volvo Penta, and provides aftercare in the form of maintenance and breakdown repairs.

Director Wayne Taylor explained Volvo Penta carried out an audit of all its 60-plus dealers and awarded points for increased sales and aftercare.

“We were awarded a lot of points for our showroom, workshop and standards,” he told the A&T. “We were said to have kept in touch with customers, taking a proactive approach.”

SAL Marine also sells new boats and RIBS from Highfield RIBS and AMT boats.

Directors Wayne and Simon Lyth employ eight staff, including five highly trained marine engineers.

“Since 2016, thanks to the efforts of my staff, we have gone on to win awards and titles every year,” said Wayne. “This latest award has been greatly received by all of us here, and the recognition of our efforts really does make it all worth it.”

He added: “Lymington and the Solent is legendary for its participation in leisure and commercial boating activities, and is a high traffic area, especially in the spring and summer months.

“For the area to be supported by award-winning Volvo Penta service provided by our company makes us all very proud and helps compliment and illustrate the high level Lymington is at in this area.”
